ห่างจากตัวเมืองเสียมราฐในประเทศกัมพูชาออกไปทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือ
ประมาณ 60 กิโลเมตร บริเวณแห่งนี้เป็นที่ตั้งของเทือกเขาพนมกุเลน
ซึ่งครั้งหนึ่งเมื่อหลายร้อยปีที่ผ่านมาชาวขอมโบราณเชื่อกันว่าบนเทือกเขา
แห่งนี้คือสถานที่อันศักดิ์สิทธิ์เปรียบประดุจดั่งสรวงสวรรค์ถิ่นที่ประทับ

แต่นักประวัติศาสตร์หลายคนเชื่อกันว่าคงไม่นานนักเพราะภูมิประเทศเป็นภูเขา
สูงชัน จึงไม่เหมาะสมที่จะเป็นเมืองหลวงเท่าใดนัก
ในที่สุดพระเจ้าชัยวรมันที่ 2
